3(a).Roza Khushai of the under-privileged children

Date: 20ThJune 2017

Venue: The Olive House , Johar Town Lahore

U.M.E.R Welfare Organization in collaboration with The Olive House, Lahore very
generously hosted a Roza Kushai for the underprivileged children on Tuesday 20th June. A
total of fifteen street children were brought to enjoy the scrumptious food at a luxury
restaurant. A gesture that is rarely directed towards those in need. As per their motto, They
Also Deserve Better, the adept and passionate management of U.M.E.R Welfare
Organization, did not just feed a bunch of children but paved a new way of extending help
and compassion by treating those the society largely ignores as equals.
From well known media personalities and entrepreneurs to enthusiastic student
volunteers/bloggers and general public, everyone came together under one roof and set
examples of extending generosity and compassion to those who deserve it the most.
Khurram A. Khan, Founder of NR Services Group & The Olive House, was kind enough to
sponsor the food for the children and provided everyone with utmost comfort at his
establishment. Ali Sheikh, the founder of one of Pakistan’s largest food forum, Foodies For
Life and the Director at Sun Bread collaborated with The Olive House and made it possible
for the event to occur. Amongst the attendees was Mr Ali Shami, Executive Editor at the
Daily Pakistan who generously surprised the euphoric children with goody bags and other
gifts as Eidi.
The evening proceeded smoothly as the excited children mingled with the management and
volunteers. A host of different media personals including TV Channel Roze and Daily
Pakistan Newspaper interviewed both the keen Co-Chairperson, Amra Zulfiqar and Fatima
Aziz, PR and Advertisement Manager as well as the children for whom the event was
organized.
It was a sight to behold when the adorable kids were served food by the help of the
volunteers. For these young ones, who barely eat to the fill, the option of choosing between
an array of delectable courses was a luxury that most of us take for granted. U.M.E.R
Welfare Organization and its management initially faced criticism and discouragement from
several people upon knowing that the underprivileged children will be taken to a restaurant.
They were instead suggested to simply hand food packages to the street children but
neglecting the negativity, the management stood their ground and succeeded in bringing the
community together for a supremely noble cause. Taking small steps at a time, starting from
humble means, the Organization dreams big and with the help of the community as depicted
in the aforementioned event will work tirelessly for uplifting the masses.
