Moj e Barakat Founder UMER Welfare “A small and skinny boy wearing torn scruffy clothes and no shoes strolled the cold and dark streets holding a food container bigger than his size. All of a sudden he fell into a puddle of muddy water, the boiled eggs in his food container fell too. It was a cold, frosty and dark. The dim light from the street lamp allowed me to see his face. I can never forget those eyes that were shedding tears and that so dirty but yet bright face. With tears is his eyes and a broken heart , he leaped forward without wasting much time, he hurriedly began picking up the eggs that were not spoiled. He was shedding tears not because he got hurt, but because he wasted the eggs he had to sell and earn bread for his family. ” I so wanted to help that little child, but I could not. That day, that child, his face and that regret of not helping him at that time motivated me to do something for such deprived and underprivileged children. That day I realized , these kids have same potiential ,same level of intelliegce and most importantly same dreams like all those kids coming from rich families. I promised myself , that I must help them to be strong and to stand on their feet. I may not be able to make them doctors and engineers but the least I could do is teach them basic maths , language skills and enable them to live a better life. . May be I can teach them the techniques, how to sell their boiled eggs n fresh corriander n green chillies one day!” (The Inspiration story of Moje Barakat) Moje Barakat who pioneered this welfare, is an overseas Pakistani who stepped forward and took an initiative to help and aid the under-privileged individuals in Pakistan. She is a devoted and inspirational young lady who promises to benefit humanity as much as she can. What’s worth appreciating is her concern and devotion for her motherland and humanity. Residing in USA, and working for the prosperity of Pakistan and betterment of the deprived individuals…. is more than what one could expect from a true patriotic person. According her, “Humanity is universal” helping the poor and needy is obligatory upon every privileged individual. She says, “Helping a needy anywhere in the world, is equivalent to helping the entire humanity” During 2007 after going to USA, she started working for provision of educational & other basic needs of street kids with the help of her friends and relatives in Pakistan.Initially she started this cause merely with her pocket money. Later , with the help of her brothers and friends , she managed to get her organization registered as U.M.E.R. Welfare. U.M.E.R began its journey with limited funds, scarce donations, dedicated volunteers and sincere efforts of catering and teaching 20 street girls & boys in a very small room. The children have been taught languages , mathematics, ethics , religion, hygiene & the meaning & purpose of life. She believes that opening doors of schools in a country like Pakistan shall close the doors to prison. Now she is taking care of three learning centers in two cities of Pakistan , Rawalpindi & Lahore!

Vice President
Tasneem Mehboob
BSc. ( Rawalpindi College for Women)
After living abroad and teaching at embassy schools of Jeddah and Muscat for several years, she yearned to go back to her country and serve the people. Living in Saudi amongst all luxuries and comforts she felt incomplete, she felt being called by her mother land. Hearing news about the conditions and plight of the poor in her country would sadden and grieved her. It was the turning point in her life when she realized that,
“If you refuse to listen to the cry of the poor, your own cry for help will not be heard. “
She came to Pakistan with high ambitions of serving the deprived and underprivileged by all means. She has helped several poor and needy. She struggled for a platform where she could channelize her efforts in the right directions. Eventually she identified herself with the cause of U.M.E.R Welfare. Now she aims to bring massive improvements and changes. She had always been disturbed by the sight of children begging on the streets and disable being neglected. Here at U.M.E.R Welfare she feels accomplished and achieved by teaching, facilitating, assisting the deprived and needy. She dreams of a Pakistan where prosperity dwells, and the poor no longer have to live with hungry minds, bodies and souls. She firmly believes in the fact that,
“Wealth is not to feed our egos, but to feed the hungry & to help people, help themselves.”
